Now in their seventh year, the Hotel Cateys are the UK hotel industry’s only truly independent benchmark of operational excellence. Since their launch in 2007, the Hotel Cateys have celebrated the most successful hotels, hoteliers and hotel employees across the UK.
They were created to recognise and reward those individuals and teams that work tirelessly to make sure their business delivers an exceptional guest experience, day in, day out.
Nearly 90 judges, selected for their expertise and industry knowledge, met at London’s Dorchester hotel earlier in 2013 for two days of lively debate and discussion to whittle down the nominees to the shortlist of runners up in 14 categories.
Peter Bradley (2007) took the honours as Food and Beverage Manager of the Year and along with his team at The Montague on the Gardens, London – he won Hotel Restaurant Team of the Year.
Patrick Dempsey (1981) received this year’s Outstanding Contribution award. Currently the managing director of Whitbread Hotels & Restaurants, he was recognized for his work on leading the Big Hospitality Conversation. The initiative, designed to get young, unemployed people to consider hospitality as a career, has been so successful that the hospitality industry has revised initial target figures of 33,000 new job opportunities by the end of 2014 to 60,000.
